That’s where nutrients, whole foods, stress management, water and rest come in.
And you can begin to do that right now with a diet higher in protein, low in sugar, and high in nutrients.
Much has been made of the studies purpoting to show that calcium (and specifically dairy) raises metabolism. Fuggedaboutit. Nearly every one of those studies was funded by the dairy industry and done by one researcher, Michael Zemel. Out of 35 studies investigating the link, 31 showed no effect.

“Boosting Your Metabolism” is probably one of the hottest topics for popular magazines. I myself have been interviewed on the subject at least 9,000 times (OK I exaggerate but not by much). Reporters (and readers) want to know what foods or supplements or exercises will “boost their metabolism”.
The second thing you can do is plug the holes that are slowing you down. Let me explain,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
If you’re not sleeping well- and most of us aren’t- it’s like carrying a fifty pound weight in that proverbial rowboat.
Then of course there’s exercise. Through the arcane physiology of oxygen debt and repayment,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we actually have an increased metabolism after aerobic exercise for a bit of time, though you get more of a permanent increase in metabolic rate-- which continues even while you're watching TV or at rest-- from lifting weights, since muscle burns far more calories than fat.
And coffee- which is not always the villain everyone thinks it is- can briefly boost metabolism and increase the feeling of energy and alertness, so if you use it before a workout you might run a little faster and longer, work a little harder,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], lift a little heavier and thus burn more calories. (If you use it just to stay awake at your desk, though, it’s not going to do any of those things.)
Same thing with water. Drinking more won’t necessarily raise the needle on the machine, but drinking less will slow you down. We already know that even 2 % less than optimal hydration will affect athletic performance negatively. Since water is needed for every metabolic process in every cell in the body, the idea that that dehydration will prevent your metabolism from operating at it’s most efficient passes the smell test with flying colors.
Protein has been shown to boost thermogenesis (which is the creation of heat in the body and the resultant burning of calories). High protein diets “stimulate” or raise the metabolism,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], sometimes by as much as 100 percent according to one study on healthy women.
Most people who ask “how can I boost my metabolism?” are actually using the question as a code for “how can I lose weight?” There’s not a great answer to the first question, but there are many good answers to the second.

When you get out of your head and into your heart, your intuition is an inner guidance system. The motivation is to always strive for personal growth and to be genuine. Your intuition knows you have an obligation to yourself for your own happiness. People will try to influence your decision. The only person who can actually decide what is the best approach for you to take is you. This is your responsibility. It is your choice as to whether you want to be externally motivated or internally driven. Change is possible.
When everything lines up and there is congruency,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you will be more likely to reach your goal. Determine which approach is best for you. What do you want more of in your life? You are the only one to determine whether your ego or intuition ought to be primary. Because the focus on your ego is fear-based, it is always coming from a place of lack. There is a sense of competition and not being enough for everyone. Your intuition knows there is more than enough clients for everyone. It wants to be part of a community based upon cooperation and collaboration. You are guided by a “giver’s gain” approach and know that when you pass something forward in some form it will be returned back to you.
Balance. That is a powerful word. It is an empowering way to live. For many this is easier said than done. We all have an inner voice we hear as we go through the day. What tone of voice does your inner voice have, supportive or critical?
It takes practice to begin shifting from your ego being the voice of command to your intuition being the guidance for direction. Approaching this from the Law of Attraction,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you always want to go with the flow and be moving toward solutions instead of away from a problem. This reinforces the focus of turning a negative into a positive.

•Indulge in every form of relaxation technique that works for you:

•Avoid people that create a negative environment.
•Avoid or eliminate things which are stressful…this includes people.

•Create time for what you love especially if you think you don’t have time for it.
•Let Go of who you think you should be and become who you want to be.
•Compromise and let go of the power of perfectionism,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
•Accept what you can’t change,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
•Forgive, others as well as yourself.

•Alcohol (hard to avoid during the holidays. Option: limit amount)
•Exercise: If you find yourself not able to participate in your usual gym visit because times get busy grab a friend, family member or child, and walk or ride a bicycle in your neighborhood. If visiting others, ask what they do for activity and allow yourself to join them. Movement of any kind is better than none.
Health-related indicators of stress are:
•Increased heart rate
• Poor digestion ( constipation is common)
•High blood pressure
•Weight gain
•Muscle tension

•Insomnia or sleeping disorders
•Reduced happiness
•Impaired immune conditions

So what exactly is stress? According to a survey by the American Psychological Association, nearly 1 in 5 test cases reached their highest stress level 15 or more days per month. That trickles down to half of a person’s life if you extend it out for the full year. Studies outside of these are constantly showing that the human body’s reaction to stress could be one of the leading causes of many life threatening diseases…including cancer and heart disease. Given these statistics, I would say we aren’t fairing too well, and our present-day health crisis in this country is proof enough.

Developing laser concentration requires a commitment. If you become distracted while racing, then I bet you also experience distractions in other areas of your life as well. Concentration comes naturally for some. Other athletes have an ongoing battle with distractions. What you do off the field impacts how you perform on the field. Choose your challenge. Then develop the daily practices to train your mind.
Practicing is not enough. Absolute certainty allows you to tap your potential, take massive action and then see results. Mental game training is critical for improved concentration. Your commitment to rise up to your challenge eliminates all the resistance.
Some strategies Beth used to improve her concentration included:
The mental game strategies were practiced during work, training sessions and various task oriented projects. Here’s the bonus. By conquering her concentration obstacles she began to accomplish more with less effort. It was almost as if she had created more time in the day.

Building your mental game takes time. Choose one area where you would like to have more focused concentration. From the list above choose one strategy you will implement into your training program immediately. Don’t just say you are going to do it, commit to it. Beth, a triathlete developing her race strategy for the season, decided to take on a big challenge. Although it felt like a significant leap, she decided to train in order to win a qualifying spot for the Kona Ironman. * Boundaries – Learning what easily distracted her focus. Identifying the conversations she had with her team, the people she spent time with on race day and the strength of her personal boundaries. Beth trained her vision,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Focusing on pre-selected target points for each leg of the triathlon was part of her race strategy.

Acknowledging the distraction and then letting go of the thought requires practice. Setting personal challenges during the event improves concentration.
* Refocus skills - Beth developed reminder phrases to bring her back into the moment when her focus would stray,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
As Beth’s concentration improved she shaved off time during her first triathlon of the season, setting a new PR. She strengthened her commitment to qualifying for the Ironman. She believed it was possible.

What I am most interested in is that we as humanity begin to wake up to how self-destructive it is—spiritually, mentally, emotionally and mentally—to reject our self.
Own your own magnificence – there is not another exactly like you. It does not only powerfully improve the quality of your own life; it can contribute to improving the quality of the life of those around you and create a society that is more functional and healthier for us all, as well. Remember, society is created by and is dependent on the individuals that compose it.
